The Situation 18

your mother’s an agent I said

your mother’s a blank cheque I said

you need to stand straight when the

world’s press come calling it wasn’t

just him like it wasn’t his fault

I was leeching off others their followers

I mean and everything they ever give

to instagram an idea cooked up

thirty years ago isn’t fresh I don’t

want to read a telesales novel I don’t

want to read a novel about eggs let

me tell you about my time in telesales

selling eggs wrote her first novel

while still at school some schools

don’t even tell you what a novel

is don’t let you get past novellas

I keep trying to give middle england

the middle finger I’m only

beckoning them nearer come here

come here I don’t know any more about

mali than you do than timbuktu

he answered this time I said your

mother is a thatcherite I said your

mother’s name is margaret I said

your mother drove a volvo you’re

a show off with your horseless burgers
