The Situation 5

stand there and read stand out of light

shift your voice when she speaks there’s

none of this rolling of words none of this

movie witch performance I’m shifting now

I sleep with a false curtain I sleep and the curtain

falls I sleep and there’s too many books

I sleep and when I wake I sleep sometimes

in the night I wake naked in the kitchen

I sleep pornography happens next door

I can hear groans across the way red curtains

open red light inside red bodies moving

this is sleep or it’s dreaming there’s no differentiating

I’m shifting now I’m a fox sniffing at bins

I’m a fox sniffing at words I’m someone else’s

metaphor I’m thinking of you I’m thinking

of holidays of holidays I never had I’m thinking

of a man sniffing at bins and a fox watching him

the fox is trying to write and thinks that the man is

like him we were in the taxi and this came up

one of us said it isn’t just foxes that sniff at bins

one of us said it isn’t just men who think
